The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal in lieu of the Certificate of Merit previously issued to First Sergeant Jenner Y. Chisum, United States Army, for distinguished service as a member of Troop B, 6th Cavalry Regiment, in twice attempting at the risk of his own life to rescue a fellow soldier from drowning in Wild Cat Creek at Fort Meade, South Dakota, on 25 May 1907.
