The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Theodore Henry Sieloff, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism while serving with Company I, 339th Infantry, 85th Division (Detachment in North Russia), in action at Verst 444, near Emtsa, Russia, 4 November 1918. during an enemy attack, when he was fired on from the rear, Corporal Sieloff moved his gun to an exposed position and delivered effective fire on the enemy. Although exposed to enemy fire from two directions, he held the enemy in check until his gun had become disabled, when he dismantled it, replaced the broken parts, and renewed his fire, repulsing a strong force of the enemy.
