The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross, in lieu of a previously issued Certificate of Merit and Distinguished Service Medal, to Corporal Roy C. Olson, United States Army, for gallant conduct while serving as a member of Company D, 19th Infantry Regiment, in action at Mount Bud-Dajo, Jolo, Philippine Islands, 7 March 1906, in willingly and unhesitatingly responding to a call for a few men to occupy an exposed point in advance of the line in plain view and within 25 or 30 yards of the enemy, from which point he kept up a most effective fire until the assault was made.
