The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant J. B. X. Lorber, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism while serving with 21st Battalion de Marche, Colonial Infantry, in action at Seletskoe, Russia, September 14 – 15, 1918, and near Obozerskaya, Russia, 4 November 1918. On September 14 – 15, 1918, Lieutenant Lorber displayed great courage in exposing himself to heavy enemy fire while directing the fire of his machine guns. On November 4 he further distinguished himself by going forward under heavy fire and supplying needed ammunition to advanced positions.
