The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross, in lieu of a previously issued Certificate of Merit and Distinguished Service Medal, to Private Edward Koenig, United States Army, for distinguished service as a member of Company G, 8th Infantry Regiment, on 13 July 1905, at the Governors Island Dock, New York, N.Y., in saving from drowning at the risk of his own life, a civilian who had jumped into the bay with the intention of committing suicide.
