The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Edward Leonard King, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. General King served with marked distinction as Chief of Staff of the 28th Division. Later as Brigade Commander, he planned and directed the operations resulting in the capture by the 65th Infantry Brigade of Chateau d’Aulnois and Marcheville, where he displayed great tactical skill and demonstrated his abilities as a commander.
