The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Charles Franklenfeld, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism while serving with Company H, 31st Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces (Siberia), in action in the Suchan Valley, Siberia, during June, July, and August, 1919. Corporal Franklenfeld distinguished himself on numerous occasions by his capabilities and extraordinary daring as a patrol leader while under fire, notably at Novo Litovsk on 8 August 1919, when he rushed the door of a hut occupied by the enemy, who were firing directly at him.
