The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant Conrad Dequerte, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism while serving with 21st Battalion de Marche, Colonial Infantry, in action at Verst 455, near Obozerskaya, Russia, 14 October 1918. Attached as liaison officer to a Franco-American detachment during the attack, Lieutenant Dequerte placed himself at the head of a section of Infantry and led it against a strongly fortified position. He was among the first to make the objective. The energy displayed by this brilliant officer while exposed to heavy fire was an important factor in the successful attack.
