The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Sergeant George E. Comstock, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism while serving with Company E, 339th Infantry, 85th Division (Detachment in North Russia), in action near Kadish, Russia, December 30 – 31, 1918. Sergeant Comstock went forward 200 yards in advance of our lines and guided back a man who had been blinded by shellfire and was stumbling around in full view of the enemy, who were sniping at him. On two other occasions he went forward in advance of our lines, exposing himself to heavy enemy fire, and returned with a wounded man.
