The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Charles C. Young, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 354th Tank Battalion, Tank Corps, American Expeditionary Forces, near Apremont, France, 27 September 1918. Although wounded twice by fire from antitank guns during the attack Sergeant Young continued at his post, refusing to be sent to the rear.
