The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Perry William Wilt (ASN: 3112819), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 311th Machine-Gun Battalion, 79th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montfaucon, France, 29 September 1918. While performing his duties as company runner Private Wilt passed through an intensely shelled area on six different occasions and expressed a willingness to make several more trips, as the situation required. While making his last journey across the area he was severely wounded.
