The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Wilfred Williams (ASN: 1597952), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montblainville, France, 28 September 1918. As point of patrol sent out to locate and destroy an enemy machine-gun nest, Private Williams exposed himself fearlessly to draw the enemy fire, which instantly killed him. Through his sacrifice and inspired by his bravery, his companions rushed and captured the enemy emplacement.
