The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Jack H. Wilkinson (ASN: 1210468), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. During the operations against the Hindenburg line Private Wilkinson left shelter and went forward, crawling on his hands and knees, under heavy machine-gun fire, to the aid of a wounded officer and a wounded soldier. With the assistance of another soldier he succeeded in dragging and carrying them back to the shelter of a trench.
