By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), William D. Weaver (ASN: 546302), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the Medical Detachment, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, from 15 to 21 July 1918, near Crezancy, and from 24 to 27 July near Jaulgonne, under severe shell fire of the enemy, Private Weaver rendered excellent work in administering first aid to the wounded. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private William D. Weaver (ASN: 546302), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 30th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Jaulgonne, France, July 15 – 21 and 24 – 27, 1918. From July 15 to 21 Private Weaver worked continuously among the wounded of his regiment, never hesitating for the heaviest fire. He volunteered and remained with the unit which relieved his regiment and continued his work with the new unit from July 24 to 27.
