The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class William M. Wallace (ASN: 1320330), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Mazinghein, France, 19 October 1918. With another soldier, Private Wallace volunteered and rescued a wounded comrade from an exposed position in front of the line after two other men had lost their lives in attempting to do so.
