The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Lee Garfield Trimmer (ASN: 44845), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Villers-devant-Mouzon, France, 7 November 1918. After being relieved from duty as a cart driver at his own request, Private Trimmer volunteered and made individual patrols. He located two machine-guns by exposing himself and drawing their fire. His exceptional bravery resulted in the destruction of a machine-gun and the dispersion of its crew.
