The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Frank John Topic (ASN: 2850600), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bantheville, France, 23 October 1918. During the night Private Topic made frequent trips with wounded back through a heavily shelled area, setting an example of fearlessness to his comrades. The next day in an advance, he carried a stretcher with the front wave, and when the objective was reached, went from shell hole to shell hole, under intense enemy fire, giving first aid to the wounded and carrying them to the rear.
