Thorf (ASN: 2256896), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion. 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Gesnes, France, 28 September 1918. Sergeant Thorf, although badly wounded crawled 500 meters under heavy shell fire to deliver important papers to his company commander.
