The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private George Myers Thompson (ASN: 1249878), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 107th Field Artillery, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montblainville, France, 26 September 1918. For five hours after he had been severely wounded in the arm, Private Thompson maintained liaison between the infantry and supporting artillery, repeatedly carrying messages through the terrific fire, and, being the only means of communication, greatly aided in the success of the attack. He went to the rear only when ordered to do so by his commanding officer.
