The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Emmett Thompson (ASN: 1403376), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 370th Infantry Regiment, 93d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Mont-de-Sanges, France, 20 September 1918, to 1 October 1918. After others had failed, Sergeant Thompson, then a corporal, volunteered and took charge of a detail to secure rations. He succeeded in this mission under very dangerous and trying conditions, and, notwithstanding the fact that his detachment suffered numerous casualties, he remained on this duty, and continued to supply the company with rations until completely exhausted.
