The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Milo Ellsworth Terry, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montfaucon, France, September 26 – 30, 1918. Although severely wounded while leading his company in the assault, Captain Terry refused to be evacuated and courageously continued in command of his company for four days in action under heavy fire of all arms and constantly in contact with the enemy. On September 30 he was again severely wounded, but remained with his company until evacuated in a delirious condition after the company’s relief had been completed. By his intrepid conduct and disregard of personal danger he inspired the men of his company and contributed greatly to the success of the operation.
