The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant (Infantry) Thomas J. Taylor, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near the Cote-de-Chatillon, France, 1 November 1918. When all the other officers of his company had been incapacitated, Lieutenant Taylor took command and successfully led his men throughout the five-days’ operations, capturing a strongly held position with more than a hundred prisoners.
