The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Frederick Herbert Swabey (ASN: 1388488), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L., 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Consenvoye, France, 10 October 1918. Voluntarily leaving his shelter, Corporal Swabey led a detachment of two other soldiers 200 yards across an open field swept by shell fire and captured a machine gun which was harassing our front line.
