The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Albert Benjamin Strickland (ASN: 51121), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vierzy, France, 18 July 1918. While leading his platoon in attack, Sergeant Strickland was painfully wounded in the leg; disregarding his wound, he continued to lead his platoon forward again until very severely wounded by a shell fragment.
