The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Alfred Stevenson (ASN: 1243679), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 111th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fismette, France, 10 August 1918. Sergeant Stevenson and another soldier voluntarily went through heavy machine-gun fire to carry an important message to an advanced unit. Attracted by the cries of a wounded soldier while they were returning they went to his assistance and, in doing so, Sergeant Stevenson was mortally wounded.

No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Alfred Stevenson (ASN: 1243679), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Stevenson distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 111th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Fismette, France, 10 August 1918, in delivering an important message under heavy machine gun fire.
