The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Edwin Richard Stavrum, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, west of Chateau-Thierry, France, 6 June 1918. Lieutenant Stavrum was severely wounded in the left shoulder during the first phase of the attack. In spite of his wound he conducted his platoon to its objective and exposed himself to heavy fire in order to organize his position for defense.
