(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel (Infantry) Alexander Newton Stark, Jr., United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, from 1942 to 1943. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Stark and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Major (Infantry) Alexander Newton Stark, Jr., United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 61st Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Cote St. Germaine, France, 7 November 1918. His battalion being stopped by machine-gun fire in the attack of 7 November 1918, Major Stark personally led it in a renewed attack and thus succeeded in gaining the Cote St. Germain. Major Stark personally captured a machine-gun and 13 prisoners, his personal example of fearlessness encouraging his men to advance against odds.
