The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Samuel Ronald Snowden (ASN: 262922), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 125th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Cierges, France, 31 July 1918. Exposed to intensive artillery and machine-gun fire, Sergeant Snowden crawled to the crest of a hill and administered first aid to a wounded man, thus saving his life. While doing so, he was wounded in the right leg above the knee, but undaunted, he picked up another more seriously wounded than himself and brought him to a dressing station.
