Riley, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 3d Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Korea in September 1950. While in a motor convoy which was halted by intense enemy fire, Corporal Riley administered first aid to the wounded throughout the night in an exposed position without regard for his own safety. At dawn he saw a mortar shell explode in a group of men. Rushing to the position, he gave first aid to the wounded and after that carried four of them to safety. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal Riley, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
