The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Sergeant Donald M. Walsh, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as an aerial engineer of a transport aircraft with the 1333d Army Air Force Base Unit, Chabua Air Field, Chabua, Assam, India, in 1943 and 1944. Sergeant Walsh completed 300 hours of operational flight over the dangerous and difficult “Hump” routes between India and China, transporting vital military supplies to the Allied Forces in China. Flying at night as well as by day, at high altitudes over impassable, mountainous terrain through areas characterized by extremely treacherous weather conditions necessitating long periods of operation on instruments and requiring courageous and superior performance of duties to over come, Sergeant Walsh has accomplished his missions with distinction.
