The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Specialist Fourth Class Albert Brick, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Fourth Class Brick distinguished himself while serving as a Grenadier with Company B, 1st Battalion, 22d Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. On 20 June 1970, Company B was sweeping a mountainous area near the Dak Kron Bung River when contact with a large enemy force was made. During the initial contact, Specialist Fourth Class Brick expertly engaged the enemy with M-79 fire, enabling the rifle squads to maneuver against the hostile force. During the course of the battle, Specialist Fourth Class Brick observed one of his comrades hit and fall severely wounded. Although the wounded man was in an exposed area and the fierce enemy fire raged about him, Specialist Fourth Class Brick fearlessly attempted to move to the aid of the fallen soldier. However, as Specialist Fourth Class Brick neared his comrade, he, too, was hit and seriously wounded. Despite his wounds, Specialist Fourth Class Brick was able to crawl to safety and was evacuated for medical treatment. Although unable to rescue the wounded man, Specialist Fourth Class Brick’s extraordinary display of courage inspired his men to rut the enemy force. Specialist Fourth Class Brick’s exceptional courage, determination, and exemplary devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
