    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Technician Fourth Grade Paul E. Johnson (ASN: 20602406), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, at Viti Levu, Fiji Islands, on January 3, 1943. Technician Fourth Grade Johnson braved the dangers of a strong tidal flow and undercurrent to rescue a soldier from drowning in the Natandola River. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Technician Fourth Grade Johnson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
