Richard Naughton graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, Class of 1968. A Naval aviator early in his career, he commanded the U.S.S. New Orleans in the Persian Gulf War in 1991. From June 7, 2022 to June 5, 2003, he served as the 57th Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy, and retired in 2003 as a U.S. Navy Rear Admiral.
