The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Jack C. Studendorff (ASN: 39405630), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 37th Infantry Division, in the Philippine Islands, on 16 September 1945. Private First Class Studendorff was swimming in the ocean near Aparri when a fellow soldier was carried out from shore by a strong under-current into water over his head. The stricken man tried in vain to fight his way against the currents, but was unable to make any progress. Private First Class Studendorff saw the stricken man struggling in vain against the under-current. At great risk to his own safety he swam to the drowning man’s rescue. Upon reaching him, he found the man practically exhausted. Private First Class Studendorff, however, succeeded in bringing the stricken man safely to shore. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Private First Class Studendorff reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
