The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Major (Infantry) Allen D. Magid (ASN: 0-229372), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services as a Regimental Supply Officer of the 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, on New Georgia from 20 July to 5 August 1943. Despite frequent disruption of his supply line by hostile fire, he kept an adequate amount of ammunition in the hands of troops and necessary supplies close to advancing elements at all times. Through his supervision front-line units were fed at least one hot meal daily. Many times, working day and night without food or rest, Major Magid visited the front lines to expedite needed supplies to units at the front. During part of the campaign, he also assisted other units of the division by furnishing supply service to them, which he did without impairing the service to his own regiment. His efforts were highly instrumental in maintaining the morale, health and fighting efficiency of the regiment. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Major Magid and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.
