The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain (Air Corps) Curtiss L. Lambert (ASN: 0-890034), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States in 1941 and 1942. Shortly after the United States Forces on Luzon, Philippine Islands, had been moved to Bataan, Captain Lambert was assigned to the position of the Philippine Air Depot which was moved to Bataan, as Executive Officer. Under field and combat conditions he demonstrated organizational and engineering ability of the highest order. On assuming the positions of Executive Officer of Philippine Air Depot he was faced with excessive problems, far above those normally encountered under combat conditions, not associated with a state of siege, supply lines to Bataan and Corregidor non-existent. This officer’s zeal and devotion to duty over long hours far and beyond the normal call of duty, his marked initiative and fidelity, contributed materially to maintaining what small amount of Air Corps remained. His superior service is reflected in the contribution of this small number of airplanes made towards the length of time Bataan was able to carry on. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Captain Lambert and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.
