The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Benjamin H. Prewitt, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 August 1944, in France. Technician Fifth Grade Prewitt’s unit had been cut off from adjacent units by an enemy counterattack and a number of the wounded were badly in need of medical attention. Technician Fifth Grade Prewitt and a companion, volunteering to obtain medical supplies and assistance, fearlessly advanced through the enemy line while subjected top sniper, small arms, and artillery fire, contacted another unit, and returned with medical supplies and litter bearers to evacuate the wounded. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Prewitt, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
