“Work Horse of the Western Front – The Story of the 30th Infantry Division” By Robert L. Hewitt

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Robert A. Roberson (ASN: 20453479), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 14 January 1945, in Belgium. A sudden enemy counterattack, consisting of four tanks with supporting infantry, threatened the company command post with which Private First Class Roberson was serving. On his own initiative and under heavy fire, he left a protected position and carried a bazooka to the point from which he delivered fire at the enemy. After crippling the leading tank, his bazooka failed to operate. Undaunted, he opened fire with his carbine and killed several more enemy soldiers before the counterattack was repulsed. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Roberson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
