The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Alvin L. Stinson (ASN: 34580686), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 15 January 1945, in Belgium. On that date another company was pinned down and their radio destroyed by intense enemy fire. Although he was not a member of the company, Private First Class Stinson volunteered to go through the heavy enemy fire for another radio. Escaping narrowly several times, he returned with the radio set and although unfamiliar with its operation, strapped it on his back and continued with the attack. He did not prepare himself a sheltered position aver the objective had been taken until all the wounded had been taken. Private First Class Stinson’s great heroism and determination were a source of inspiration to his comrades. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Stinson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
