The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Donald L. Honeycutt, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany, in 1945. When the enemy counterattacked in great strength just behind the Elbe River front line, Sergeant Honeycutt went to the rear to the company command post to report the situation. He then went for one and one-half miles through enemy fire to an ammunition supply point to obtain bazooka ammunition. In a subsequent action, Sergeant Honeycutt stepped into the path of a vehicle containing six of the enemy and killed all its occupants. Later, he killed two of the enemy who were well dug in and would have caused casualties among his platoon. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Honeycutt, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
