The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Calvin C. Collins, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany, on 28 February 1945. When his platoon encountered stubborn enemy resistance, and were unable to advance further, Private First Class Collins, armed with an automatic rifle, moved forward to engage the enemy. Enemy fire became so intense, he was forced to take cover three times. He killed two snipers and subjected the enemy to such continuous fire that his platoon was able to advance. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Collins, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
