Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 86 (October 25, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Edward C. Broussard (ASN: 0-1293004), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 July 1944, in France. First Lieutenant Broussard’s heavy weapons platoon was attached to an infantry battalion when the entire unit was subjected to a heavy enemy attack. The intensity of the attack temporarily disorganized the front line elements. First Lieutenant Broussard immediately went forward and personally reorganized them into an efficient fighting team, exposing himself to withering enemy fire by his every action. The enemy continued to inflict casualties on our forces and when one man was seriously wounded, First Lieutenant Broussard fearlessly worked his way to the wounded man and evacuated him to a place of safety. Through this gallant officer’s personal bravery and superb leadership he inspired his men to hold their positions and contain the enemy at a critical moment. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Broussard, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
