By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Sergeant Charles F. Sigg (ASN: 204355), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. First Sergeant Sigg distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 2d Ammunition Train, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Mont Blanc, France, 4 October 1918, in directing the unloading of ammunition under enemy observation and artillery fire.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Sergeant Charles F. Sigg (ASN: 204355), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 2d Ammunition Train, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Mont Blanc, France, 8 October 1918. Sergeant Sigg was in charge of a convoy of trucks, loaded with artillery ammunition, of which our batteries were in urgent need. The site selected for the dump was under very heavy shell fire, but Sergeant Sigg, drawing his convoy up in sections directed the unloading throughout the rain of shells, which were exploding on all sides of his machines.
