The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technical Sergeant Jerry Harding Beaman, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany, on 6 October 1944. Technical Sergeant Beaman was checking his platoon’s defensive positions when he discovered one of his comrades to be severely wounded by enemy sniper fire. Although the wounded man lay in an exposed spot that would render anyone who went to his assistance a perfect sniper target, Technical Sergeant Beaman without hesitation or consideration of his own safety, crawled out to help him. Just as he reached the man he was killed by a sniper’s bullet. The unhesitating courage and loyalty displayed by Technical Sergeant Beaman in attempting this act reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
