Barenkamp, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany, in 1944 and 1945. In an attack on a heavily fortified position, the company commander was killed. First Lieutenant Barenkamp took charge of the men and successfully led his company to capture the objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Barenkamp, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
