Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 188 (July 14, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Paul E. Remwolt (ASN: 36486509), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 April 1945, in Germany. During an engagement, Private First Class Remwolt observed four enemy soldiers a short distance away and called to them to surrender. He was answered instead with a shower of grenades and rifle fire from other enemy dug in nearby. Acting calmly in this perilous situation, Private First Class Remwolt opened fire with hid rifle and with accurate fire killed six of the enemy, wounded three, and compelled the remaining twenty to surrender. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Remwolt, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
