Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 188 (July 14, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Charles C. Harmon (ASN: 35085203), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 April 1945, in Germany. When the attack of their company was held up by fierce enemy resistance within a stubbornly defended town, Private First Class Harmon and his comrade decided on a course of action. Protected by covering fire from their squad, they exposed themselves to enemy fire and crossed a street to an enemy-occupied house. Forcing their way into the house, they captured two prisoners. They then took up firing positions with the house, and despite the heavy enemy fire directed at their position continued firing until the enemy positions were neutralized and the remainder of their squad was able to advance to reinforce the newly won position. The enemy was driven from their key positions and the company was able to advance and take its objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Harmon, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
