The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Robert J. Garon (ASN: 36451064), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 230th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 27 March 1945 to 28 March 1945, in Germany. Technician Fifth Grade Garon and his officer observer unhesitatingly exposed themselves to heavy enemy fire to occupy an observation post in a building. Although shell fragments flew dangerously close, Technician Fifth Grade Garon and his companion calmly remained at their post and directed artillery fire which eventually silenced the enemy. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Garon, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
