    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class William M. Anderson (ASN: 34855289), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 April 1945, in Germany. When his comrades had withdrawn from their position which was being subjected to fierce enemy fire, Private First Class Anderson remained steadfast and continued engaging t he enemy, thus preventing their advance until his platoon could reorganize and set up a new defense position. Private First Class Anderson’s gallant stand against a determined enemy force reflects great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
