The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class James C. K. Haslet (ASN: 33679895), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 14 January 1945, in Belgium. Risking almost certain injury, Private First Class Haslet crawled under intense automatic fire and through an area in which grenades were being thrown to rescue a wounded man. After giving first aid, Private First Class Haslet started to drag him to the rear when he was severely wounded by an enemy grenade and the other man was killed. Private First Class Haslet’s gallant action in attempting to save the wounded man reflects great credit on himself and the Armed Forces.
